More like May Daze, amirite?!

Much to report — no time to waste!

It’s already May, and there’s new stuff afoot! Admittedly, it’ll be an embarrassingly short take on each here — but I hope you’ll check in on any news bits that intrigue you!

There’s Never Been A Better Time…

Then there’s this little number — “There’s Never Been A Better Time…” — a 1-poem booklet handmade and burnished and stamped and saddle-stitched in-house in an edition of 52. Here at the HQ we feel the ephemera has been getting short-shrift lately so we aim to change that! It’s pretty darn inexpensive as well!

And then, out of nowhere, you friend and mine, Ben Tanzer tells me that PSALMS has managed to earn an honorable mention from those cool cats over at the 2025 Big Other Readers’ Choice Award. A NM Book Awards finalist, and now this? I’ll take it!

And coming is just about a week…CICADA by Emma Beko

Two years ago, Canadian singer and songwriter Emma Beko reached out, having discovered my poem somewhere in the electro-webs, with some downright kind things to say about it and work. Seems the poem has since played a small role in the inspiration of her latest album, and as we talked, the opportunity to record the poem for use on the record came up — and, now years later, it’s all about to be made real for the world!

I’ve talked a bit about the humbling and astonishing reach of the poem…and how astonished and overjoyed I am that it keeps finding people and that it means something to them. The album goes live on May 14th, 2026 at the retailers listed above, if not elsewhere! She’ll be hitting the road touring, so give it a listen, give her a follow, and keep your eyes out at nearby venues for one of her shows!

Tomorrow evening, 7pm EST, 4pm Pacific I’m zooming in for a chat with Timothy Gager and his long running Dire Lit Series (thankfully with a virtual reading that opens up Timothy’s insightful interview stylings to folks like me, in the far-off and dusty mesas of the badlands)! Gager has talked to loads of great writers, asks great questions, and is hugely active across writing, podcasting, and reading spaces himself — so I am honored to have a chance to briefly join him!

The Missing Link!

If you were hoping to catch Sunday’s event, but the vagaries of this modern life simply conspired to keep you from it,..well, here at the HQ we’ve got you covered!

Here’s a link to watch at your leisure! I race through a handful of the Psalms From The Badlands, so as to keep things ticking along at a decent clip. Honestly, I probably should’ve read a few more…but, hey, I gotta save some for later, right?

Also wanted to send a thank you to Emi and Brian McGettrick who stayed up late (on a school night even!) to tune in from out UK way, to Scot Young (who was not as far afield, but still made the effort) and, of course, my sweet Bacon Lady! I can’t say I’m used to or comfortable with readings yet, but seeing some familiar faces in the virtual crowd is always a big relief — and your thoughtful kindness deserves notice!
