NM Book Award Honorees @ Drift Exchange

  • Druft Exchange @ Scarab Space (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The New Mexico Book Awards and Drift Exchange cordially invite you to join them and a grip of recent winners and finalists for an event celebrating some of the best local books!

For over 2 decades, the competition has, in the words of Paul Rhetts, sought “to uncover and honor the best in New Mexico books.” and this shindig aims to do just that! Peruse the honorees’ work and what you’ll instantly discover is the breadth of talents and voices across scores of genres right in our own backyard! And it’s yet another in Drift Exchange’s passionate curation and deep commitment to create a “platform for artists, musicians, and cultural workers in New Mexico” in their gorgeous upstairs space overlooking Central Avenue — the Mother Road herself, Route 66.

DrunkSkull will be there with Psalms From The Badlands (our finalist in poetry last year), the DrunkSkull Sidewalk Cinema, and running a little giveaway for attendees — so come on by, check out the scene, and get yourself entered for a chance to win some books and whatnot!

DrunkSkull Sidewalk Cinema + Independent Bookstore Day @ Page 1 Books

DrunkSkull Books and Page 1 Books join forces to celebrate Independent Bookstore Day!

KEEPING BOOKS DANGEROUS takes help from everyone! Here at the HQ we’re honored not only to have a few titles stocked on their shelves, but to also have a chance to bring the DrunkSkull Sidewalk Cinema to Page 1 Books — and share some of what we love about the small press! From timelapse videos of linocuts or collage covers, to animated drunk poems, to the video broadsides of the 2025 NM Book Awards finalist Psalms From The Badlands, we’ve got multimedia to share — and just like the popcorn — it’s always free!

Ho-ho-holy macaroni — the DrunkSkull Sidewalk Cinema is returning to Flock of Moons (and this time, hopefully we’ve got our audio sorted!)!

You know what that means: mini-bookmaking documentaries, time-lapse footage of collage covers or linocuts, and, of course, animated "drunk poems" to inspire both guffaws and delights! There’ll still be popcorn and other freebies, and with so many rad vendors filling up the beer garden out back, you’ll surely be able to find a stocking stuffer or two — if not handle your holiday gift list entirely! So if you want to watch a little something we made, and maybe grab a box or two — come find us, we look forward to seeing you!

The Virtual Collapse - Featuring the Poets of Rusty Truck

Your friend and mine, Scot Young — the driving force behind Rusty Truck and Deuce Coupe — was gracious enough to invite me to this month’s installment of The Friday Collapse [Virtual Series] hosted by the Collapse Press crew. The readings are hosted on Zoom and usually stream live on Facebook, as well.

If you are anything like me, then your shelves are probably packed full of books by these folks — and if so, you should join us!

*Fun fact — I’ve actually met a couple of these folks is real life!

This Podcast Will Change Your Life...Again!

Guess who’s back? Back again?
Guess who’s back? Hosh and Ben!

I’ve had a handful of chats with Ben over the years, despite never being in the same city! In this, our latest installment of Ben’s long-running podcast, we touch on the new book, some older books, the differences in both the writing and the making of them, and generally just muck-about in that mysterious artistic soup! If that sounds like your cup of tea, you can give it a listen at the button below!
