NM Book Award Honorees @ Drift Exchange

The New Mexico Book Awards and Drift Exchange cordially invite you to join them and a grip of recent winners and finalists for an event celebrating some of the best local books!

For over 2 decades, the competition has, in the words of Paul Rhetts, sought “to uncover and honor the best in New Mexico books.” and this shindig aims to do just that! Peruse the honorees’ work and what you’ll instantly discover is the breadth of talents and voices across scores of genres right in our own backyard! And it’s yet another in Drift Exchange’s passionate curation and deep commitment to create a “platform for artists, musicians, and cultural workers in New Mexico” in their gorgeous upstairs space overlooking Central Avenue — the Mother Road herself, Route 66.

DrunkSkull will be there with Psalms From The Badlands (our finalist in poetry last year), the DrunkSkull Sidewalk Cinema, and running a little giveaway for attendees — so come on by, check out the scene, and get yourself entered for a chance to win some books and whatnot!

X E Oaks’ badass artwork (celebrating both the moxie and misanthropy we like to embody here at the HQ) is likely stumbling through the back alleys and boroughs as you read this! So, to you fine souls who’ve already grabbed up yours — our sincere thanks! You really do help keep us going.

And here we go!

Another year — another chance to show your support for all things DrunkSkull! This year we are lucky to have the amazing talents of E X Oaks on our yearly fun-fun-fundraiser! And, like DrunkSkull Books — we think it’s got just the right mix of danger and fun, of seriousness with just enough don’t-give-a-shit!

As you probably know by now, we get up to some publishing and some mischief here at the HQ, so perhaps you share a similar sensibility? If so, we hope the t-shirt lets the world know that you’re deadly serious about doing all you can to #keepbooksdangerous while, at the same time, not some square or scold!

And while we are painfully aware that big and serious things are happening out there in the world, there’s something to be said for carving out your own tiny little bit of peace by staying artistic, staying productive, and saving a little ember of joy for brighter days. So that’s what we’re hoping to do in 2026 and beyond! We’d be honored if you brought us with you during your own wander into better times.
